Why We Upgraded to a 2026 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar
Around here the Ranger gets used almost every day, so when we decide to upgrade, it’s not just for fun — it’s because these machines really are part of everyday life on the farm.
We recently traded in our 2020 Ranger and brought home a 2026 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar, and I have to say, there are quite a few differences that I noticed right away.
The first thing I saw was the height.
This one sits quite a bit higher than our old Ranger, probably around four inches or so. I’m actually really happy about that, because driving over corn stalks and rough ground can be hard on equipment, and the extra clearance should make a big difference.
Another thing that made me smile right away — it has visors now.
That might sound like a small thing, but when you spend a lot of time in one of these, the little upgrades matter.
The shifter is also much smoother than our old one.
On the 2020 Ranger it always felt a little stiff, but this one moves like butter that’s been sitting out on the counter. You barely have to touch it.
And this one might only matter to shorter drivers, but I noticed it immediately.
I’m 5’3″, and my feet finally reach the floor in this Ranger.
That alone makes it feel a lot more comfortable to drive.
This model also has automatic windows, a fold-out windshield, blinkers, side mirrors, and brighter LED lights, which makes it feel a lot more like a real vehicle than just a work machine.
They also added charging ports, which is actually really handy when you’re out working and want to plug in your phone, flashlight, or anything else without running back to the house.
The grill guard on this one is more solid too, which I appreciate… especially when you have stubborn cows that don’t always move when you want them to.
One thing we noticed while checking everything over was that they moved the dipstick, which actually makes it easier to get to than on the older Ranger.
We do have the radio installed, but once you get up around 40 miles an hour, you can’t hear much anyway, so that part hasn’t changed a whole lot.
Overall, the new Ranger feels smoother, more comfortable, and a little more built for everyday use than our old one.
We use these constantly on the farm, so the small changes really do add up.
